Ella- a counter person at the United Airlines check in- declared that David and I were humble and smiling, the kind of people that she likes visiting Kauai and the next time we come she will make us some real Mai Taus at her house. Plus her son is a policeman. I don’t understand it, but I’m going with it nonetheless. Aloha and Mahalo!
Great perch from which to plan- so far on the to do list, a magic show with hula dancers, because Hawaii, city bus to the state museum, historic Honolulu, food trucks that serve poke and garlic shrimp, other local restaurants that serve up sushi and shave ice, and a jazz club that is hosting Dionne Warwick. And the beach...
The trip from Chicago to Honolulu turned out to be exactly four movies long. My head felt like my stomach does after going to an all you can eat buffet and I had too much of foods that don't belong together in the same digestive system at the same time. But it was free. Lady BirdThe acting was great, the script was intimately well observed, but I wanted to poke my eyes out because it was so good it reminded me of being that age, but with not as nice looking people and inferior dialogue. The Justice LeagueI only sporadically watch the various superhero movies, so I don't really know where the on going story arcs are, but I love Wonder Woman, no matter how cliche and predictable that makes me. It seemed like a low key Infinity War, with fewer characters and half the number of items that had to be collected, and a happier ending, with a less relatable bad guy. Def covet that lasso of truth, even though I'm pretty sure it might be painful to hear everything people would say. The Shape of WaterIt was ok, but it wasn't the wonderful surprise that Pan's Labyrinth was. It's sort of how M. Night Shyamalan knocked it out of the park with the Sixth Sense, and never really again (at least for me) The Disaster ArtistI never heard of THE ROOM, so most of this was lost on me. It might have been really great, or a terrible misfire, take your pick. I did pick up that the Franco brothers think who they are, though.
For those of you wondering where this is, there’s a story. Come to Pittsburgh sometime and I’ll tell you.
